Keynote Speakers

We are honoured to host three Keynote Lectures in the EATA 2023 program. Each lecture will be given by the world-wide class experts – get familiar with their bios today!

Prof. Jerzy Ejsmont

Prof. Jerzy Ejsmont is an employee of the Automotive and Military Technologies Group at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology of the Gdańsk Tech. Since the beginning of his work at Gdańsk Tech, he has been working on the pneumatic tire and the road surface interference. His early work concentrated on tire/road noise, culminating in the release, together with Dr. Ulf Sandberg from VTI Sweden, of very comprehensive Tire/Road Noise Reference Handbook.

Since the mid-1990s, he has mainly been researching the rolling resistance of car and truck tires. His studies were carried out both within research projects financed by the European Commission and the National Center for Research and Development, as well as by the world’s leading tire manufacturers and road research institutes.

The research equipment that has been created over the years at the group includes unique test trailer for road testing of rolling resistance and roadwheel facilities for measuring the rolling resistance of tires rolling on proprietary replicas of road pavements. A very unique feature of these devices is that measurements may be performed in the temperature range from -15°C to +35°C.
Prof. Ejsmont deals also with military issues, including ballistics, explosives neutralization and sniper training. He is active long distance shooter wining numerous national and international competitions.

Prof. Eyad Masad, Ph.D., P.E., F. ASCE

Dr. Eyad Masad is a professor in the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering at Texas A&M University and a professor in the Mechanical Engineering Program at Texas A&M at Qatar. He is also the Executive Director of Global Partnerships in the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station. Dr. Masad is a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and a member of the American Society for Engineering Education. He served as Chair of the Pavement Committee of the Geo-Institute, ASCE. He is currently the President of the Association of Pavement Science and Engineering (APSE).

Dr. Masad research focuses on multi-scale characterization of pavement materials as well as analysis and design of resilient, sustainable pavement systems. Dr. Masad published more than 400 technical papers and reports including 220 journal papers. He is also the holder of two US patent. He is the co-author of a book on Pavement Design and Materials, which is adopted for teaching pavement courses in many universities around the world. Dr. Masad has established several research laboratories and chaired/co-chaired many conferences, symposia and workshops sponsored by professional organizations all over the world. He has delivered numerous training courses for the industry and transportation agencies. He has been a consultant for major projects in the United States and Middle East. These projects involve pavement analysis and design, forensic evaluation of pavement damage, soil stabilization, material characterization, and development of quality control and quality assurance systems.

Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, czł. koresp. PAN

Prof. Krzysztof Wilde has been the rector of Gdańsk University of Technology since April 2019. He is a respected scientist and expert in the field of bridge structures, structural mechanics and diagnostics of civil structures, as well as a teacher and academic leader appreciated by students.
Before he became the Gdansk Tech rector, a leading technical university in northern Poland, he had been the dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Gdansk Tech three times. He gained international experience, among others at the University of Tokyo in Japan, where he obtained his doctorate and then the title of associate professor. He is the author or co-author of over 200 publications and four patents, and in 2016 he also became a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
Prof. Wilde is also one of the advisers to the Minister of Education and Science in the field of infrastructure investments in Polish science, as well as the chairman of the Council of Rectors of the Pomeranian Voivodeship. In his activity as a rector and scientist, he focuses on the integration of the world of science with business, as well as creating the best possible conditions for the development of young and talented researchers.

Workshops

More information about RILEM:

video presentation

Together with EATA2023 conference, we are pleased to organize three RILEM workshops. Their practically-oriented content is complementary to the scientific program of our conference and they fit the current issues in our industry. Participation in workshops is free of charge but you must sign up since the space is limited and you must participate in the EATA2023 to join them. You can sign up during the registration process – you can start here.

RILEM TC 308-PAR: Performance-based Asphalt Recycling

Chair: Dr. Gabriele TEBALDI
Deputy Chair: Dr. Eshan V. DAVE
Workshop Date: June 14 2023, 14:00 – 18:00
PROGRAM

“New needs and open problems on industrial applications of recycling of asphalt pavements”: this workshop will be focused on the different aspects of the recycling of asphalt pavements from the point of view of industries and agencies. Its main objective is to explore the main problems found by industry in order to identify where future research should be focused on in the upcoming years. Technical and technological aspects of different asphalt recycling techniques will be covered, as well as life-cycle assessments and the environmental impacts of these recycling technologies. The workshop is set to be a meeting point for discussion among academia, industries and agencies, in order to provide an exchange of ideas and a transfer of knowledge and expertise.

RILEM TC 279-WMR: Valorisation of Waste and Secondary Materials for Roads

Chair: Dr. Lily POULIKAKOS
Deputy Chair: Dr. Emiliano PASQUINI
Workshop Date: June 15 2023, 9:30 – 13:00
PROGRAM

It is well established that currently a considerable amount of waste is produced and a major part of the resources are wasted through the mainly linear process of material use in our economies. Various types of waste materials such as crumb rubber, plastics and construction & demolition waste have been successfully used in road pavements. RILEM TC 279-WMR aims to develop and broadly demonstrate such solutions in order to promote widespread market uptake. This workshop will bring together several stakeholders including those working within the TC in order to address various aspects pertaining to the use of waste and marginal materials in roads. This can span from choice of waste and marginal materials, laboratory characterization, in situ performance and standardization.

RILEM TC 280-CBE: Multiphase characterisation of cold bitumen emulsion materials

Chair: Dr. Andrea GRAZIANI
Deputy Chair: Prof. Alan CARTER
Workshop Date: June 15 2022, 14:00 – 17:30
PROGRAM

Cold bitumen emulsion technologies play a key role in the development of and sustainable bituminous pavements because they allow important energy savings and reduction of atmospheric pollution. However, their application range is frequently limited due to the lack of fundamental knowledge concerning the mechanical behaviour and the long-term performance of CBE mixtures. RILEM TC 280-CBE aims to foster the use of CBE technologies as a sustainable alternative to traditional hot technologies. This workshop will summarise the research findings focusing on the fundamental knowledge related to chemical and physical mechanisms that control the long term performance of CBE materials and on the mix design and performance of slurry surfacings.
